Wine & Spirits Education Trust Level II Award in Wines

This is a THREE DAY course- student MUST attend all three sessions: January 24th, 25th, & 26th.

The Intermediate Certificate Course is appropriate for wine enthusiasts who want to acquire in-depth knowledge of wines and spirits, and for those employed in the retail or hospitality industry. The course covers the major types of wines and spirits of the world, and includes tasting of more than 40 different types of wines and spirits.

Successful completion of the one hour 50-question multiple choice exam earns the student the internationally-recognized Intermediate Certificate from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust in London. The exam does not include wine tasting.

There is no prerequisite for this course, but many students have found it useful to begin with Level 1. Please contact lydia.garofalo@nykitchen.com if you have questions about which level is right for you.

Students will be mailed the course textbook and study guide prior to the start of class. WSET recommends at least 16 hours of study time outside of class prior to the exam. Registration is required no later than January 10, 2020.

New York Wine & Culinary Center is an Approved Program Provider of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust.  WSET Qualifications are part of the UK qualifications framework, and the education courses leading to WSET qualifications are an invaluable source of information for students to enhance their knowledge of wines and spirits.  WSET qualifications are not a guarantee of employment or career progression, nor do they form part of any regulated qualifications framework outside the UK.

POLICIES:

It is WSET policy that all students must present valid photo identification prior to the start of their exam.

Complaints:

Any student may file a complaint with the APP regarding dissatisfaction with any aspect of the WSET Award offerings. There is no discrimination against any student who wishes to file a complaint. All complaints will be handled in a confidential matter unless the student chooses to waive that right. Complaints should be first submitted to the Program Manager, or to the Educator if the complaint is filed during a class. If they cannot resolve the issue, it will be passed to the General Manager for resolution. Should a resolution not be reached, the student may submit their complaint directly to the Quality Assurance team at WSET.

Conflict of Interest:

NY Kitchen will take every step to ensure there are no conflicts of interest that would adversely affect any student in a WSET Award course offering. Educators and Main Contact shall not be enrolled in any course that would grant them access to course information. NY Kitchen shall appoint a temporary Main Contact should the current wish to enroll in a WSET Course.`

Privacy and Data Collection:

We respect and are committed to protecting your privacy. We automatically receive and record information on our server logs from your browser including your IP address, cookie information and the pages you visited. We will collect your name, date of birth, gender, e-mail, and mailing address to submit to WSET Global for course registration. All information is stored on a private server. We will not sell or allow third-party use of your personal information.

Diversity and Equality:

Reasonable adjustments:

NY Kitchen offers reasonable adjustments to candidates to apply to ensure the are assessed at no disadvantage or advantage over other candidates. Adjustments may include adapting materials to include large format or languages other than English, removing excessive stimuli from the exam room for autistic candidates, providing facilitators such as sign language interpreters or readers.  To apply for a reasonable adjustment, you must submit your request for a reasonable adjustment no less than 5 weeks prior to the examination and include supporting documentation. The APP will then submit the application to WSET for approval. Reasonable adjustments will not be granted unless approved by WSET. A record will be kept of all reasonable adjustments.

Special Considerations:

NY Kitchen will make special considerations for any student who has experienced temporary illness, injury or adverse circumstance at the time of assessment. WSET does not offer aegrotat awards. Students must contact the APP with supporting documentation no less than 10 days prior to the examination date. Special Consideration will not be granted without WSET approval.

Malpractice and Maladministration:

This policy is in place to protect the integrity of the WSET qualifications and best interests of the students. Maladministration is unintentional non-compliance; malpractice is intentional or the result of negligence. Where a situation falls is determined pending an investigation by WSET Awards. NY Kitchen takes these matters very seriously, and it is our duty to report any issues to WSET Awards immediately. We take every care to ensure we are in compliance with the APP guidelines, however if you believe malpractice or maladministration has been committed, please report it directly to your instructor or the Program Manager and they will notify WSET Awards and resolve the situation.

Cancellation policy:

The standard NY Kitchen Class Cancellation Policy DOES NOT apply to WSET Award courses. If you cancel your registration more than 14 business days before the course begins, you will receive a refund of the class fee, less a $15 processing fee.  The cost of study materials supplied to you and the shipping fee for those materials is not refundable.

If you cancel your registration during the 14 business days prior to the start of the course, or after the course begins, no refunds apply.  However, your registration is fully transferable to another person for the same course and session, subject to qualification.

Fees will only be refunded in full if the NY Kitchen cancels or changes the date of a course.

WSET Make-Up Examination Policy:

If you are not able to take your examination on the scheduled date, you may participate in the next scheduled exam.  Unless you give us 14 business days notice that you will not sit the exam on your original date, exam change fees apply.  If you want to arrange for a private make-up exam at another time, an additional private exam fee will be charged.  Please contact us for more information.
