The Science of Cider: An Immersive Tasting Experience with Star Cider

Did you know that New York is the second-largest producer of apples in the nation?

Capitalizing on New York’s apple bounty, Star Cider is one of the renowned cideries that was founded in 2014. Driven by a love of making hard cider with family and friends, their legacy of cider-making dates back over three generations.  From years of experience, they understand that it is paramount to be involved in every stage of the cider making process – this way they can maintain the highest level of quality and consistency.

This class will provide you with an opportunity to take a deep dive with Cortni Stahl, co-owner and head cider maker at Star Cider. You will enjoy a flight of ciders along with a light appetizer. This interactive session will provide you with an opportunity to have educational conversations as well as the ability to ask those burning questions about the hard cider industry. If you love the taste of cider and enjoy the culture that encompasses the cidermaking processes (or want to learn more), then this class is for you!

Meet Cortni Stahl, Head Cider Maker: As co-owner and head cidermaker, Cortni brings to Star Cider a diverse background in fermentation science. After studying biology at Cornell University she apprenticed under distillers, brewers, and cidermakers in Montana, Vermont, Virginia and New York. Her and her husband founded Star Cider in 2014, she also works at Cornell Agritech at the Craft Beverage Analytical Lab.

More About Star Cider: Based in the Finger Lakes region of New York, Star Cider has a great appreciation for agriculture, and understands the importance of taking care of the land that is used to grow produce. Star Cider also takes great pride in sourcing their apples, ingredients, and equipment from small, local businesses in New York.

Cidermaking is not a destination, but a journey. On this journey, cider will continue to evolve as we discover new insights on the science of cider and unravel myths and legends about the processes used to make hard cider in the past. Cidermaking will continue to transform as we experiment with the fermentation process and through the use of fresh ingredients that complement the flavor of cider.

Our mission is to forge a new path in the industry by producing premium ciders with fresh ingredients and to continuously discover and push the boundaries of classical cidermaking processes. We promise to continue making stellar hard cider as a tribute the deep roots this drink has formed within our history and culture.
