Happy National Beer day!

New York Kitchen loves to celebrate beer from all over the state, whether its supporting breweries right near us, over in buffalo or downstate in New York City.  With 20 taps available in our restaurant and 10 Taps in our all New York State tasting room we have plenty of room to showcase lots of different beers.  We know that the Beer aisle can get confusing, so I have put together a simple list of different kinds of beer to look for and what our favorites are here at NYK.

Lager – Lager is a type of beer conditioned at low temperatures.  Lagers can be quite pale, amber or dark.  Pale lager is the most widely consumed and commercially available style of beer.

My Favorite – Rohrbach Brewing Co –  Highland Lager – Rochester, NY

Pilsner – Pilsner is a type of pale lager.  It takes its name from the Czech city of Pilsen, where it was first produced in 1842 by Bavarian brewer Josef Groll.

My Favorite – Young Lion Brewing Co – Pilsner – Canandaigua, NY

Berliner Weisse- Berliner Weisse is a cloudy, sour beer around 3% ABV.  It is a regional variation of the wheat style beer from northern Germany, dating back to at least the 16th century.

My Favorite – Mikkeller Brewing NYC – We Got Berry’d Away – Queens, NY

Ale – Ale is a type of beer brewed using a warm fermentation method, resulting in a sweet , full bodied and fruity taste. Historically the term referred to a drink brewed without hops.

My Favorite – Reinvention Brewing Co – Manchester English Ale – Manchester , NY

India Pale Ale ( IPA ) – India Pale Ale is a hoppy beer style within the broader category of pale ale.  The export style which had become known as India Pale Ale , developed in England around 1840.

My Favorite – Thin Man Brewery – Burning Money – Buffalo, NY

Stout – Stout is a dark, top fermented beer with a number of variations, including dry stout , Baltic porter, milk stout and imperial stout.
